Gordon steers for city council

A founding member of the Progressive Democrats of Cambridge and the creator of the scorecard holding Democratic legislators accountable to the state party’s platform is running for city council in November’s municipal election.

Jesse A. Gordon said he is committed to pursuing reform in Cambridge city government and will pursue a progressive agenda based on accountability to citizens.

“I am not reluctant to challenge those in power. For example, I believe there are too many powers invested in city manager Robert Healey,” he said.

“He is competent and honest, but he is not elected and, therefore, he does not have to be accountable to the people. I will work to change such things,” he said.

Gordon said he came to Cambridge to attend Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.

Once here, Gordon said the charming city and a certain professor impressed him thoroughly.

“I was a student of Robert Reich’s at Harvard and when he first started out on his campaign for governor I was one of the first to volunteer my time and effort,” he said.
